Opioid and heroin addiction along with fentanyl use are killing our sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and our friends and coworkers. The toll knows no distinction among gender, race, class or party affiliation. The pain of those hurt or killed by these drugs touches almost all of us. It is time to stop the pain. We must embrace, expand and fund comprehensive programs to help the addicted. We need to move beyond criminalization of addiction and treat it as a sickness that deserves medical and psychological treatment and our compassion. I pray Project Opioid leads us to help those who are sick with addiction before it’s too late.
