At Tampa General Hospital, we see firsthand how opioids can drastically alter the lives of so many people and families not only in Tampa Bay but across the United States. As a leading academic medical center, TGH takes pride in our multidisciplinary approach to combatting opioids, identifying alternatives for pain management and developing pain management guidelines. In addition to success in effectively reducing use of IV opioid drugs at TGH and reducing the length of stay for many patients in recent years, we’ve worked with community organizations to provide mental health services to patients with symptoms of abuse. Still, there is much work to be done and collaborating with the Leadership Coalition will help bring even more awareness and solutions in an effort to decrease opioid overdoses and deaths. This is why I’m proudly involved.
