June 6 is Revive Awareness Day, which was designated to raise awareness of opioid overdose dangers and promote the safe use and availability of opioid antagonists like naloxone. This day comes at a critical point in the overdose epidemic – after years of effort, the number of deaths are finally beginning to lessen, but we are still far from pre-pandemic levels. So, to commemorate this day and reinvigorate our efforts, Live Tampa Bay will be launching a year-long campaign, and we need your help.

As CEOs, business leaders, direct service providers, and those personally touched by this crisis, your voice and action are essential. I invite you to join our year-long campaign through these practical, life-saving actions:

  • Install Naloxone Boxes: Mount cases which contain naloxone boxes next to your AED machines throughout your facilities or offices. Just as AEDs save lives during cardiac emergencies, naloxone can reverse an overdose in minutes. We have supplies available for free and can help you determine the appropriate quantity and placement for your organization.
  • Take one Additional Step toward Creating An (Even) Healthier Workplace: Visit the resource page developed by our Employer/HR Committee to find vetted resources to meet your business where it is regardless of size, time, or workplace demands. HR Resources
  • Schedule Our Team to Present to Yours: Invite Live Tampa Bay to provide an abbreviated 7-minute – or full length, 30-minute – presentation to your team. These presentations can be scheduled at your convenience throughout the year and tailored to your organization’s specific needs. Topics in this training cover:
  • The science of addiction and how it affects the brain
  • How to recognize signs of addiction in colleagues and loved ones
  • Step-by-step training on administering naloxone
  • Resources available for employees and their families

Think about how automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) have become standard in workplaces across Tampa Bay. We’ve normalized being prepared for cardiac emergencies. Now, we must do the same for overdose emergencies. With fentanyl present in so many substances – often unknown to users – anyone can be at risk. Having naloxone readily available is not about enabling drug use; it’s about saving lives and giving people the chance to recover.

Thank you for your continued commitment to this vital cause. Together, we will achieve our vision of communities where no life is lost to addiction.

With determination and hope,

Jennifer Webb
