Revive Awareness Day: A Statewide Call to Action on Opioid Overdose Prevention

June 6 is Revive Awareness Day, a statewide initiative known as “Victoria’s Law” was co-sponsored by Senator Ed Hooper, a senior member of the Tampa Bay delegation, and signed into law in 2024. This day commemorates the life of Victoria Siegel, who tragically died from an accidental overdose at 18 and aims to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse and the life-saving potential of naloxone (also known as Narcan), an opioid overdose reversal medication.

Health departments across the Tampa Bay area are participating in Revive Awareness Day by hosting educational events, providing free naloxone kits, and offering training on overdose recognition and response. For instance, in Hernando County the Florida Department of Health and the Hernando Community Coalition are hosting an event at the Spring Hill Branch Library. A similar event is being hosted in Hillsborough County at the University Area Health Center.

Live Tampa Bay’s Commitment

Live Tampa Bay is proud to announce the launch of a yearlong regional campaign in recognition of Florida’s Revive Awareness Day, which will focus on expanding access to naloxone and building public awareness around opioid overdose prevention. The campaign will roll out over the next 365 days, working in partnership with the hospitality industry and the broader business community to place ONEboxes—automated naloxone kiosks with educational video displays—throughout hotels, restaurants, and public spaces across the region. These boxes not only provide immediate access to naloxone, a life-saving opioid overdose reversal medication, but also offer on-the-spot guidance for bystanders to respond with confidence and care.

Live Tampa Bay’s campaign aligns with its broader mission to reduce opioid overdose deaths in the region through collaborative, community-driven strategies. This initiative will continue to bring together sectors across healthcare, public safety, business, and behavioral health to ensure that every community member—regardless of age or background—has access to life-saving tools and the knowledge to use them.
